As part of Kittelson & Associates, Inc.'s ongoing Transportation Education Series (TES), we are pleased to invite you to attend the first workshop from our recently opened Wilmington, NC Office. These interactive workshops focus on a wide range of topics and are intended to promote professional development and advancements in transportation engineering and planning. The sessions also provide a unique forum for transportation professionals from a wide range of public agencies to share their ideas, best practices, and challenges. Participants earn credits that can be applied to continuing education requirements. We have a wonderful opportunity lined up for you in May regarding Innovative Bicycle Design. This workshop will provide an overview of recent innovations and national state of the practice in the design and operations of bicycle facilities. The workshop will highlight new national guidance documents on bicycle facility design, including the NACTO Urban Bikeway Design Guide and the FHWA Separated Bike Lane Planning and Design Guide, as well highlights from national best practices. Special focus of the talk will be on the treatment of bicycles at intersections, where conflicts with vehicles are greatest, and discussion of strategies for mitigating these conflicts to result in a safe and efficient operation for all road users. The talk will link the national guidebook experience with hands-on project examples of bicycle facility designs across various states.

Conor Semler is a Senior Planner with Kittelson and Associates, Inc. who draws on his experience in urban planning, traffic engineering, and technical research in complete streets design. Conor is highly regarded for his ability to leverage transportation design to create livable and healthy communities. His focus is on improving conditions for walking and bicycling through better evaluation and design. Conor is a national leader in the planning and design of innovative bicycle facilities. He was involved in the development of both the NACTO Urban Bikeway Design Guide and the FHWA Separated Bike Lane Planning and Design Guide. Conor's experience is informed by his role in leading research, contributing to designs, and working closely with cities to continually evolve and innovate safer, more inviting bicycle facilities.
