Data Analytics and Visualization - Telling Stories with Data

Join us for a 1.5-hour Transportation Education Seminar (TES) on data analytics. The event is FREE of charge for any transportation professionals in Tallahassee and surrounding areas. Professional development hours (PDH) toward their continuing education requirements will be given to Professional Engineer (PE) attendees.

Abstract:
Data analytics continues to become more ingrained in the work transportation professionals do every day. But the data, tools, and skillsets needed are constantly changing, requiring us to learn to keep up. This Transportation Education Seminar (TES) will begin with a brief discussion on the fundamentals of data analytics and visualization—with emphasis on real transportation projects and examples. These include corridor studies, LRTPs, congestion management plans, and more. We will then review popular tools for working with these data (such as R, Tableau, and Google API), with the intent of highlighting their advantages and limitations. Finally, Jorge Barrios will walk through the process of analyzing real-life transportation data with free tools made available by TRB, FHWA and other government agencies.

Schedule:
8:45 to 9:00 a.m. - Check-in
9:00 to 10:30 a.m. – TES Session

Participants will earn a total of 1.5 professional development hours (PDH) for attending this workshop.

There is no cost to attend this workshop.
