The Latest on Corridor Planning and Application of Roundabouts

Bart Rudolph will be presenting on corridor studies addressing their relevance and importance to an ever changing transportation system. Bart will provide an overview of how corridor management integrates various elements of competing demands to help provide a common vision for an entire transportation system. Topics will include the following:

  1. Corridor studies 101 – The who, what, when, where and why of corridor planning
  2. Corridor planning case studies in Alaska and elsewhere
  3. Evaluating the practicality and effectiveness of corridor planning in Alaska

Lee Rodegerdts will be presenting some of his recent work with roundabouts. Lee will provide an overview of recent national research on the applications of corridors of roundabouts, defined as three or more roundabouts in series. Topics will include the following:

  1. Examples of the variety of roundabout corridor applications throughout the United States
  2. Lessons learned by corridor operators during their projects’ development and implementation
  3. Project development and evaluation tools developed and presented in the NCHRP Report 772, including: a. Travel time estimation through a series of roundabouts, and b. A corridor comparison framework for evaluating new potential corridors.
