Performance-Based Engineering and Practical Roadway Applications

Special 2.5 hour session to begin promptly at 10:30 and end at 1:00 p.m. A variety of sandwiches will be provided for those that RSVP.

The intent of this workshop is to discuss the nationwide movement towards a performance-based approach for making roadway engineering decisions. We will address tools and processes available to assist in making engineering decisions, evaluating trade-offs, and managing risks. The discussion will include practical application examples, such as roundabout design, Highway Safety Manual applications, and the design exception process, to illustrate this approach.

John M. Mason, Jr., PhD, PE is Vice President for Research and Associate Provost at Auburn University. Brian Ray, PE and Beth Wemple, PE of Kittelson & Associates, Inc. will also be presenting.
