This workshop has been CANCELLED. Please see our list of events for upcoming workshop opportunities.

The AASHTO Highway Safety Manual (HSM) has four parts:

A. Introduction and Fundamentals B. Roadway Safety Management Process C. Predictive Method D. Crash Modification Factors

Part C can be readily applied to any project where the engineer or planner is testing the safety impacts of different cross-sectional features of a roadway segment or intersection. It essentially provides a method for predicting the quantitative safety performance (i.e. crash frequency) of a particular facility.

Preliminary Agenda (Subject to Change): 8:00 am - 12:00 pm: Fundamentals of the Method, Applying the Method, Interpreting the Results. 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm: Lunch Break. 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm: Strengths and Pitfalls, Real World Project Examples.

Lunch will be provided.

Who should attend

The workshops will target staff and senior level engineers and planners who are interested in applying the HSM Part C: Predictive Method on projects to assess the safety impacts of design options.

The workshop will be led by members of Kittelson & Associates, Inc.’s project team on NCHRP 17-36: Production of the First Edition Highway Safety Manual.

Please be sure to bring a laptop with the HiSafe Software downloaded (visit hisafe.org) and a calculator. If you do not have a laptop, please note this when registering, and we can supply a laptop, if necessary.
